In 2004, MAD greens established their first restaurant in Colorado. Since then, it has exploded its restaurant chain, now moving to Arizona, Texas, and Utah with 28 locations and counting. Many fast food restaurants are unhealthy, but MAD greens is revolutionizing the fast food industry. With lower-calorie, high vegetable content foods, they offer a variety of colorful, fast foods, for any palette. It is a unique restaurant, and they are adding new aspects to make it even more appealing. MAD greens has partnered with the Wasatch Community Gardens, or WCG. Wasatch Community Gardens’ focus is to foster the local society in Utah. WCG has four core programs: community garden, youth, school gardens, and community education. These programs are aimed at trying to involve the local community in being active in creating their own food, and learning about the health benefits of nutritious food.
MAD greens mission statement is: “We Nourish our MAD Greens family by encouraging and recognizing individual contributions and providing real opportunities for growth. We Nourish our guests by providing delicious, better-for-you, fresh and inspired eats in an environment that infuses hospitality, convenience and affordability. We Nourish our community by cultivating local relationships and forging genuine, meaningful partnerships built on trust and transparency. We Nourish our future by being performance driven without compromising integrity and quality. We Nourish our culture by fostering a little bit of MADness in work, play and life.” MAD greens executes their mission statement by telling their customers how they will nourish them, as well as the community. From this appealing statement (and appealing food), they have opened a growing franchise. They have created a healthful option for eating out, something that we have not seen frequently throughout the United States. MAD greens gives those who want to have a nice meal out, the option to choose something better than traditional fast food. They also have an effective business, especially due to how well they apply their purpose to the business, even despite having many locations. Occasionally, when businesses start to grow, they lose sight of what their overall business goal is; MAD greens is not following that trend.
MAD greens also supports other organizations as philanthropy. They emphasize on K-12 schools, youth community groups (focused on healthy, active lifestyles), community gardens, and food and sustainable agricultural groups. If someone has an organization that can be categorized into one of these four groups, then they can even apply to receive a donation on the MAD greens website.
MAD greens is more than a restaurant; they are aiding other organizations that have a similar goal as they do. MAD greens is supporting a healthy lifestyle, that not many food companies promote. Especially in fast food, they make the food differently so it has a lower calorie content. This sounds great, but the food is still extremely processed, and contains tons of sugar, fat, and carbs in the food. MAD greens differs from this by creating a healthier option compared to these other fast food restaurants. They provide healthy, flavorful food, to help inspire others to be more thoughtful with their food choices. MAD greens proves that food can be exciting and wholesome, it does not have to be one or the other.
